Trek to Ahupe mountains...( original write up by Shanti M Shenoy ...30 Nov 2007 )

Yet another trek pic..gets uploaded…he he…this is the trek to AHUPE GHAT…oooh ooooh..every tm we decided on going here..there hd to be some probs…but ultimately we hv conquered it….nd nw have only EVERLASTING memories left with us…first tm whn I am sitting to write I dnt knw where to start…I cn write volumes I guess….to cut the long story short….AHUPE is really a plc with scenic beauty….when we reached the top…I felt as if we hd entered into a fairytail…where those beautiful yellow and pink flowers admist the green grass ..those dragonflies and butterflies all around…the clouds so low that u feel u r in a plane…..and when u look down..the earth looked as if it was covered with a carpet of light nd dark green patch work…..nd we sitting on the top of the mountain r the rulers of the world…..ha ha..this is the first tm when I reached the top I did nt feel like screaming..but jst sitting and capturing every little detail I cld..see…and then tantadan…I guess every thing that happened on this trek was unplanned..which makes it so special..we gt late while coming down..it started getting dark….and wht was so lovely was tht we all were there supporting each other..helping each other come down..as most of us wr tripping while coming down….tht unity was wonderful….pratik nd sushant always kept our spirits high by keeping the atmosphere lt by cracking jokes, ninad ,mukesh, vishal discussed which way we shd take…..vinni, arundhati, disha and I were like sisters..always concerned how the other one was..and helping each other get down...ninads direction sense helped us a lot…but the hero was dewang ha ha..whose TATA INDICOM mobile caught network and we all called up our parents to say that we hv to spend the night here at the ahupe base and will return next morn…..ooh then it was fun time again..it felt like all the tension hd vanished once our parents kn we were safe..as we did nt wnt thm to wry….thn we found a safe spot near the stream .and settled down…even thought the place was safe..one of us was always awake keeping a watch……then came a time..when every one slept off and only I kept awake…..i guess I hv nvr enjoyed silence so much..the sound of the stream…the stary night..wow I enjoyed it…and was thanking the AHUPE that I cld see standing firm and still looking majestic surrounded by clouds in the dark…even though no one was awake I knw all my friends were near me and tht felt nice….i hd mixed feeling I was feeling alone too..as hd no one to talk with bt did nt feel like waking up anyone…he he…so I waited patiently tl it was 6.05 and then woke up everyboby…..wow then we all screamt out aloud…..when we started walking within 50 steps there was the gaon and people…he he…but at tht tm it never mattered..as we had hd so much fun staying , jst before leaving I turned nd tht last look of AHUPE was sooo..i cant express…I was feeling like the story is come to an end….i actually saluted AHUPE in my mind..nd thanked it tht we were all returning hm safe and happy……………………………………………………………………….
Thanks to pratik..cause of whome we hv we r a part of the treks tht they used to go previously, vishal, ninad, mukesh who hv become close to us and consider thm as classmates in such a short span of tm, vinni,aru,disha..without whom my trek is incomplete..galli who cld nt make it this tm has always been an inseparable part too.missed u galli, sushant who was like an overcharged battery and it was commendable the way he always cheered us up…dewang the silent pillar…who kept his composure in times of worry.and deraj our new entryhe he..who was sadly unwell during the trek..

I hv never enjoyed coll life so much…I WISH this yr wld never end…but sady all good thing hv to come to an end……THREE CHEERS TO OUR FRIENDSHIP…and TREKKING……

Trekking our way out!!!! ( Original article written by Shanti )

Trekking our way out!!!!........Shanti M Shenoy ...."Sare Jana Se Acha Hindustan Hamara"

The general opinion of postgraduate students of U.I.C.T is that they are geeks and nothing can excite them as much as research does. But something is different when it comes to our batch, the 2008 batch of m.pharm and m.tech(B.P.T).We all do enjoy research, and work hard the whole week, but when the weekend nears, there is something that makes our heart beat race. It’s that something that makes us put in extra effort the whole week through so that, we can enjoy our weekends. That PASSION of our lives is TREKKING.

Trekking is so much fun that it’s very hard to explain, those beautiful mountains half hidden by the fog, the crystal clear streams, those gleaming rocks, that smell of the wet mud, the eye soothing greenery all around you just astounds you and touches your heart. Walking through that jungle in the rains is super cool, with waterfalls which come as the most welcoming and awaited surprises. Climbing on rocks, at times choosing the most difficult path to reach our destination what we term as “ADVAVENTURE’, thinking of which way to go by at times is fun and gives us all that adrenaline rush. The most heartwarming moment is when you reach the top of the mountain, you feel like you have reached heaven. We scream out aloud at first, then sit quietly for some time and enjoy the sound of the gushing wind. After reaching our destination we celebrate that moment by then eating our lunch. Unlike other trekkers we don’t litter around and make it a point to collect all the non degradable stuff back home, taking turns to hold it.

The most memorable trek was the trek to PRABHAL GADH where we celebrated the INDEPENDENCE DAY. One of us made the flag (me); we hoisted it at the top of the GADH and sang the national anthem with utmost pride. It was the most beautiful moment. Some of the other treks where we have had the opportunity to go are MNIKGADH, NANEGHAT, RAJMACHI, HARISHCHANDRAGADH, NATIONAL PARK etc…

Trekking has actually now become our hobby. The boys of our gang Pratik Patel,Vishal Parekh, Ninad Pandit, Mukesh Pednekar,Haresh More,Sushant Patil search for unexplored places in and around Mumbai, and find out the routes to reach there. The girls Vanita Sharma, Arundhati Lele, Disha Vithlani, Galvina Ferreira make all arrangements for food. We have PhD. students and friends from other colleges who occasionally join us. We all stay in the hostel a day prior to the trek as we leave way before dawn.

Trekking is test of physical endurance, gives you that peace of mind as it is break from your routine and away from the bustling city life that we lead. And actually it’s a much better alternative than watching a movie in a multiplex or going to a water park. Every trek has its own story to tell and beautiful memories that we shall cherish all our lives. What make our treks even more memorable are those beautiful 20 minute movies that our classmate Vishal Parekh has developed an expertise at making for us.

Life is too short, and do not want to let it go just like that. As all of us have a common passion and love for nature and animals, we have decided to “Trek our way out” through our masters…see as much as we can manage in our free time to explore the unexplored and the forgotten mountain ranges, cliffs, forts of Maharashtra……….that’s the least we can do till we are together.

Our Dear Shanti…..

HE blessed us with her

She filled our life with joy, happiness, prosperity

We were very proud to be her parents

She was very mature, kind hearted, intelligent

She touched many lives and made them happy and joyful

She enjoyed her life

HE decided

HE wants her back in HIS care, for a higher role

All of us are free to make a choice about what we believe

Every choice we will make has consequences

Death is a transition

Afterlife is a reality

And it will exist whether we choose to believe in it or not

It does not matter what we believe in

Only truth shall prevail

Only HE knows

HE is the truth
